10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY COMMISSION
CALL OUT FOR ARTIST/S
We are looking for an Artist/s to develop a new piece of work that is rooted in the wider experience of people and communities of Moston, Harpurhey and Charlestown.
SICK! Festival has a commissioning fund of £8,000 available for an early to mid-career artist/s from Greater Manchester to respond to what is SAFE!
- What does it mean to feel safe today?
- What makes us feel safe and not so safe?
- What can be the catalyst for
fear to manifest and negatively impact people’s lives?
SICK! has developed the SAFE theme through a process of conversations with local residents, our Community Ambassadors, artists and other local partners.
How might an artistic intervention raise awareness of this, explore it deeper or perhaps shine a light on how we can find a solution both personally and in the wider community?
The project needs to draw on substantial research and work with partners from community-based organisations, healthcare providers, charities, or academic researchers.
We are looking for a project that is a creative public space intervention within the community that employs different forms, processes, and types of engagement with audiences.
We want to hear from artists whose work crosses boundaries between performance, visual art, literature, film, music, and digital practices. We are open to proposals from artists working in a wide range of artforms, but we don’t see the finished work as a theatre piece.
As well as financial support, bursaries will include creative advice sessions, support in building collaborations with community, healthcare, and academic partner as well as an opportunity to present work at SICK! Festival in May 2024.
HOW TO APPLY
Please send us a brief outline of your idea. You can send this in writing (1 side of A4) or in a 2–3-minute audio or video recording.
Please also send us links, images, video, or any other material which will give us an idea of your artistic practice.
Shortlisted artists will be invited to an informal chat to discuss their ideas further.
