THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF SICK! FESTIVAL 2022

Thank you for being a part of SICK! Festival 2022

We have officially come to the end of SICK! Festival 2022 and we wanted to say a massive thank you for being a part of the festival. It was a month-long festival and we’ve selected some highlights to share with you!

THE GREEN

Throughout the month of May, we had an array of amazing art happening at ‘The Green’, a grassy space right in the heart of Harpurhey, Moston and Charlestown. Highlights included ‘MINDGAMES Arcade’, Jimmy Cauty’s ‘MDZ Estate’, ‘SICK! Cars;’ and the ‘Love Letter’s to Moston Lane’ installation.

‘Love Letter’s to Moston Lane’ invited visitors to reflect on what they love about where they live and make their own mark on the installation. As part of the ‘MINDGAMES Arcade’ visitors were able to play the entirely new game ‘Never, Forever, Always’ exploring the link between gaming and mental health, which was created by group of young men from Finland and North Manchester.

HRH LAUNCHED THE I AM EXHIBITION

Featuring powerful portraits of 12 survivors of domestic violence, ‘I AM’ was a SICK! Festival commission by photographer Allie Crewe, presented in partnership with SafeLives – the UK-wide charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse.

The exhibition, installed in St. Peter’s Square outside Manchester Central Library with the support of Manchester City Council, was opened by HRH Camilla Duchess of Cornwall and was visited by thousands over the month of May.

EJACULATION FALLS

The long-awaited ‘Ejaculation Falls’, developed by Finnish Theatre-maker Essi Rossi and Manchester-based novice performers, was presented at Z-ARTS on 25th and 26th May.

The performance explored experiences of sex and sexuality, featuring song, recorded and live music, dance and movement, and expressionistic scenography, lighting and sound design to punctuate six deeply personal monologues in the form of “conversations” by the six performers.

Each evening we held post-performance discussions, facilitated by Essi Rossi and supported by a sex therapist. The response from the audience was astounding. The discussion drew very positive feedback from the audience, as well as an opportunity for them to share their own experiences.
