In South Korea, there was a big controversy concerning children’s tongue surgery to improve English pronunciation. The surgery is known as a lingual frenectomy. Some people thought the surgery improved English pronunciation. Some parents forced their children to have the tongue operation, even though their tongue was completely normal.
Lolling and Rolling penetrates Korean’s tragic social phenomenon related to English education. Theater maker Jaha Koo reveals the tragedy through a fictional story, setting contemporary and historical events within a context of colonialism and imperialism.
