French & Mottershead present two pieces from their Afterlife series of immersive digital artworks that transport the listener via intimate stories to the body’s decomposition after death.
Grey Granular Fist, experienced in listening chairs in the Whitworth, imagines the body as an object – visceral and invasive – as it dries out in the gallery’s carefully controlled environment.
Woodland, experienced via a smartphone app (smartphone supplied) outside in Whitworth Park, connects you deeply to your body and poetically details its slow fade into the earth over thousands of years.
Both works offer a meditative and surprisingly calming self portrait of what happens to our bodies after death.
